Wealth screening & prospect research

Wealth screening scores your donors on capacity (assets, real estate, giving history) so gift officers spend cultivation time on the right people. It's the most expensive category in the stack and the easiest to buy too early.

How to choose

Pricing is quoted per organization across the category; reported entry contracts run about $4,000-$6,000 a year. DonorSearch leads with demonstrated giving history. Kindsight (formerly iWave) posts the category's top satisfaction scores with transparent, sourced ratings. WealthEngine specializes in fast capacity modeling across large lists. The best evaluation is the same for all three: book the demos and ask each vendor to score a sample of donors you already know well.

The timing rule: screening pays off when a named person works the results into portfolios and visits, typically around $1M raised. Before that, hand-research your top 25 prospects; when that stops keeping up, you're ready to buy. And remember what the data is: capacity says someone could give, and cultivation discovers whether they will.

Below about $1M raised, the better buy is usually a one-off screen run by someone who will also build the portfolio, rather than a year of platform access. We do that work.

Screening enters the recommended stack at $1M-$5M and runs continuously at $5M+.
